Bouquet of the Week
April 27, 2017
Peonies, Baptisia, Cornflowers
This week we begin to see a wider range of spring flowers blooming. It's the beginning of the seasonal procession of annual and perennial flowers we use to provide a steady supply of Kentucky field grown flowers for our bouquets and arrangements from May through October.
Big, colorful, and fragrant peonies are the focus of our springtime arrangements. For the best quality and the longest vase life, we bring them to market while the flower buds are still in a tight ball. The petals open quickly into extravagantly luxuriant, great big frilly flowers.
We've also started cutting Baptisia this week. Baptisia has long arching spikes of blue pea-like flowers set against bright emerald green foliage. It's a beautiful, highly seasonal specialty cut flower native to our American prairies. It's a true seasonal treasure.
These are some of the distinctive naturally grown varieties that signify springtime on our Kentucky flower farm.
See you on Saturday!
