Bouquet of the Week
May 18, 2017
Sunflowers, Peonies, Saponaria, Larkspur, Dianthus, Bupleurum, Iris
We have a colorful selection of spring wildflowers for the market this Saturday - larkspur, saponaria, dianthus, yarrow, bupleurum, baptisia - as well as peonies and the season's very first taste of fresh cut sunflowers!
Between ourselves, we like to call these "filler bouquets" because of the many full, branching, airy flowers that are so abundant at this time of year, like saponaria with its profusion of charming pink or white flowers and attractive light green stems, leaves, and flower buds.
Tuberose Bulbs for Sale
As the soil warms up in May and June it's time for planting tuberose bulbs. Tuberose form a grassy clump with tall, stately spires of waxy-white flowers and a heavenly fragrance. They bloom in August and September.
We still have some of our own tuberose bulbs to sell to our market customers this year. It's an easy and rewarding flower to grow in a sunny garden.
We can't wait to see you again this Saturday at the Bardstown Road Farmers Market!
